A great day in gorgeous Girona. Bloody hot again today so we got going early to climb above the town and walk the roman wall. Wow! The Jewish quarter another highlight. After a few hours in the sun, a late lunch and down time at home in our cool apartment before heading out again for a stroll, an aperitif and another terrific tapas dinner.
It was less than a week ago we had the idea of a couple of nights in Girona. It has been a wonderfully unexpected highlight of our travels - as was Merida at the end of our Camino Mozarabe. Both towns are just the right size, interesting, colourful, easy to wander around, narrow streets and laneways but impossible to get lost - so much to see and appreciate. We knew little of either town before this trip and would now count them among the many, many delights that Espana has to offer.
Girona is a short train ride from Barcelona - 40 mins on the fast train and 1 hour 30 on the usual train. We'd highly recommend as a side trip from Barcelona.
Speaking of Barcelona - excited to be back there tomorrow and to the fabulous Violeta Boutique Hotel!
Hasta luego.
