Costa Brava - Cadaques and Dali House

Another sunny day in Cadaques where we spent a lovely morning strolling around the foreshores of the town before heading up and over the hill this afternoon to the next little cove of Portlligat and the Dali house.

The artist often lived and worked here from 1930 until 1982 when his wife Gala died and he moved to Girona. During those years Dali and Gala added many new rooms to the original house, with Dali designing the new spaces to capture the light and ensure there was always a view to the sea. In each room, the windows frame an exquisite natural picture. It truly is enchanting.

The French and I have quite a few things in common. One of those things is that, with some exceptions, we are not often keen on visiting museums, churches or other historical monuments. But we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Dali house and gardens.

I enjoyed finding out more about this unusual and provocative man and artist, his work, his life with wife Gala and the home they shared - not only from our guide and the short film we watched beforehand, but also from Domi. Dali was more famous in France than in his home country of Spain and Domi has an interest in Dali and is quite knowledgeable about his life and work - and celebrity. The French is full of surprises!

Anyhoo, I won't write about things that you can discover 'on the google' and elsewhere. Enough to say that if you're ever in this neck of the woods, Cadaques and the Dali house are both well worth visiting.

We're getting itchy feet now, so tomorrow we'll walk - via a combination of the Cami de Ronda coastal path and the GR 92 inland - to the Costa Brava town of Roses.

Hasta luego
